Mandarin is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Introducing your children to this ancient language offers a strong connection to the cultural context of Singapore, but also a wider range of cultural experiences in this region of the world. This is a programme that exposes children to Mandarin in a play based and creative context in line with the Blue House pedagogy. Children engage in interactions and experiences with native Mandarin speaker, Laoshi Helen, discovering and exploring the language through interactions within story telling, sensory exploration, music and movement.
Laoshi Helen is from Beijing, China and joined Blue House in September 2015. She received her degree in Early Childhood Education from the Australian Catholic University and obtained her diploma from TAFE NSW. As Blue House’s Mandarin Specialist, Laoshi Helen believes Mandarin, just like English and other languages, are the tools to communicate with others and the media to explore the international community.
